We’re always looking for ways to improve our molds.

As we manufacture, test, and receive feedback from our customers, we may make small improvements to our products to increase durability, usability, and overall casting quality.

This page keeps track of notable updates and improvements made to our products.

    Why We Make Changes

Every Zapp3D Design mold is made by hand in the USA. As we continue producing our molds, we occasionally find opportunities to make them even better.

Some changes may be small and barely noticeable, while others may improve durability, stability, ease of use, or the finished casting.

Our goal is simple: keep improving the molds we make and provide the best product possible to our customers.

Because our products are continually improved, the mold you receive may include minor updates compared with older photos, videos, or previous versions.

    August 27, 2026 — 12" × 8" × 3" Straight Cross Mold

    Change: Reduced exterior support structure.

    What Changed

    • Removed the three U-shaped supports that previously wrapped around the top and sides of the cross.

    • Retained the supports along the long bottom sides and base of the mold.

    • No change to the actual interior shape or dimensions of the finished casting.

    • Repolished the master shape.

    Reason for Change

Customer feedback indicated that the mold was too stiff, making demolding more difficult than necessary.

We also experienced the same issue during our own production—the additional supports made the mold more challenging to demold after manufacturing.

Removing the three U-shaped supports gives the silicone more flexibility while retaining support in the areas where it is still beneficial.

    Goal

Improve flexibility and make demolding easier while maintaining enough structural support to keep the mold stable during use. We believe there will be no physical changes to final castings.

    June 17, 2026 — 6" & 9" Letter Mold Stability Update

Change: Added flat bottoms to letters that previously had difficulty standing on their own.

    What Changed

We updated the majority of our 6" and 9" letter molds that naturally tended to roll, lean, or require additional support when displayed.

These letters now feature a subtly modified flat bottom, allowing the finished resin casting to stand upright on its own immediately after demolding.

    Why We Made the Change

Previously, certain letter shapes could require bumpers, glue dots, or other added supports to stand upright.

    With this update:

    • All letters can now stand on their own

    • No bumpers, glue dots, or additional supports are needed

    • Castings are display-ready directly out of the mold

    • The change is designed to maintain the overall appearance of each letter

    Why It Matters

It’s a small feature, but one that makes the final product better for our customers—and ultimately, better for their customers.

Our goal is to continue finding these small opportunities to improve our molds so the finished pieces require less work and are easier to sell, display, and enjoy.

April 23, 2026 — New Custom Silicone Blend

Change: Introduced our new custom-blend Pearl Silicone.

    What Changed

After extensive testing, we transitioned from our previous Clear Silicone to a new custom Pearl Silicone formulation.

The Pearl Silicone will now be used across all of our large and small silicone molds.

Our 3D-shaped molds will continue to use our Teal Silicone, which remains better suited for those designs.

    Why We Made the Change

We performed side-by-side testing between our previous Clear Silicone and the new Pearl Silicone, with a particular focus on how the molds perform over repeated use.

    Testing showed:

    • Improved shine retention over time
    • Better overall material properties for casting
    • Improved performance for floral preservation applications
    • A better balance of the characteristics we look for in our professional molds

Maintaining a glossy interior surface is especially important for resin and floral preservation work, where the quality of the mold surface directly affects the finish of the casting.

    Going Forward

Pearl Silicone: All large and small molds
    Teal Silicone: 3D-shaped molds

This is part of our continued effort to improve our materials and make molds that perform better and last longer for our customers.
